About David Spero, R.N.

“David inspires, empowers, and encourages readers and listeners to take action to promote personal well-being and improve the lives of others.”  Michael Goldstein, MD, Institute for Healthcare Communication

“I am awed by your sense of purpose and the healing you inspire in others."  Anna Satenstein, Education Coordinator, Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, Kirkland, WA

David Spero has been a nurse for 35 years and has lived with multiple sclerosis (MS) for 25 years. He knows chronic illness from inside and out. His books have been published in four languages, and his articles have appeared in numerous magazines and web sites.

As faculty in the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Program New Health Partnerships, David works with medical systems in helping patients help themselves.  As columnist for diabetes publications, he studies and presents the latest issues in diabetes. He provides skills and insight to help people overcome barriers to self-care, and teaches them to help others do so. He shows the social causes of illness and reports on ways to promote wellness in communities and society. With his partner, Aisha Kassahoun, he presents powerful programs for couples dealing with the effects of chronic illness and aging. He is always informative, entertaining, and inspiring.

“Eloquent and thought-provoking.”  Richard Rubin, PhD, past president, American Diabetes Association, author of Psyching Out Diabetes

"David Spero is a dynamic speaker who engages his audience through theory, practice, and storytelling. His workshops are inspiring and practical."  Denise Daniello, Alaska Fairbanks Education Center
