“Self-Care is the Best Care”This web site serves people with "chronic" conditions, diseases which have no medical cure. It's also for the people who care about us and for us, either personally or professionally. In my classes, workshops and books, I put health and illness in a larger social context. I show how health and illness come from our lives and our environment. We need to commit to self-care, and we need to come together to support each other and change our environment. The role of health professionals should be to support people in making life-giving changes. My book The Art of Getting Well, teaches how to succeed at self-care in an unhealthy environment. It provides skills that all patients and providers should know. My current books series, The Inn by the Healing Path: Stories on the Road to Wellness, tells of people creating beauty and finding wellness in difficult circumstances. It's more spiritual and inspirational, still based in science and social understanding of our lives. Check it out on my blog .
On this site, you can also read useful and inspiring articles, and link to my blog at Diabetes Self-Management.

You CAN Get Better! The Art of Getting Well gives you more than the how-to of self-care. It also provides the why-bother. Most books on living with illness give you a map of the swamp and say, "Go." The Art of Getting Well comes with you, helping you overcome the crocodiles and avoid the quicksand.
